Privacy policy

Mock Room helps you practise the IELTS Speaking test. To do that we record your spoken answers and use AI services to score them. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who helps us process it and what you can ask us to do with it. If anything is unclear, write to us at hello@mockroom.app.

Who we are

Mock Room is run by an independent developer based in Turkey, who is responsible for your data (the "data controller"). You can reach us at hello@mockroom.app.

What we collect

• Account details: your first name, email address and password (the password is handled by our sign-in provider; we never see it).
• Voice recordings: your spoken answers during a mock test.
• Results: the transcripts of your answers, band scores, feedback and the history of tests you have taken.
• What you tell us: your target band, your test date if you share it, and any feedback you send us about a test.
• Visit statistics: anonymous page views (which pages are visited, the country and the type of device), counted by Vercel Web Analytics without cookies and without identifying you.
• Technical data: basic information our hosting needs to run the site and keep it secure, such as your IP address, browser type and error logs.
• Settings on your device: whether sounds are on, saved in your browser. Our sign-in provider uses cookies that are needed to keep you logged in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Why we use it

• To run the mock test and score your answers (this is the service you ask us for).
• To show your results, your progress and your test history.
• To keep accounts secure and the service fair, for example the daily limit on free tests.
• To find and fix problems.

We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use your recordings to train AI models.

How your answers are scored

After a test, your recordings are sent to AI models through OpenRouter: a Google Gemini model listens to each answer and writes down what you said, and an Anthropic Claude model reads the transcripts and gives your band scores and feedback. We only use providers that do not keep your data to train their models. The scores are estimates to help you practise; they are not official IELTS results.

Who helps us

These companies process data for us, only to provide the service:

• Clerk (United States): accounts and sign-in.
• Convex (database and file storage, hosted in the European Union, Ireland): your account record, recordings and results.
• Vercel (United States): hosting the website and anonymous visit statistics.
• OpenRouter (United States), with Google and Anthropic: scoring your answers, as described above.

Some of these companies are outside Turkey and the European Union, so your data may be transferred abroad. We use established providers that commit to protecting the data they process for us.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, recordings and results for as long as your account exists, so you can look back at your progress and so your answers can be scored again if scoring fails. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.

Your rights

Under Turkish data protection law (KVKK) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you can ask us to:

• tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy;
• correct data that is wrong;
• delete your data or your whole account;
• stop or limit some uses of your data.

Email us at hello@mockroom.app from the address you signed up with and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) or to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

Mock Room is not meant for children under 13. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country, please use it with permission from a parent or guardian.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is important, we'll tell you in the app or by email. See also our terms of use.
